To understand why our homes are so quiet, you have to look at how a standard home is built. A traditional wood-frame wall is essentially hollow. It consists of thin layers of drywall and siding separated by wooden studs.

When sound waves—whether from a passing truck or thunder—hit a wood wall, the wall vibrates. It acts almost like a drumskin, transferring the noise right into your living room. Fiberglass insulation helps a little with temperature, but it does very little to stop low-frequency noise.

The Science of Serenity (Mass + Damping)

We take a radically different approach to building your building envelope. We rely on physics to stop sound in its tracks, using two key principles:

1. Mass (The Concrete Core)

Heavy things are hard to vibrate. It takes a lot of energy to move a solid, 6-inch wall of reinforced concrete. When sound waves hit the exterior of a Florida Green home, the sheer density of the concrete block or ICF core absorbs that energy, stopping it from passing through to the interior.

2. Damping (The Foam Insulation)

In our ICF builds, the concrete is sandwiched between thick layers of EPS foam. This foam acts as a shock absorber. It dampens any remaining vibrations, further “muffling” the sound before it reaches your ears.

The Result: While a standard wood home has a Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating of about 35 (you can hear loud speech through it), an ICF wall can achieve ratings of STC 50 to 55+. That’s the difference between hearing a lawnmower outside and hearing almost nothing at all.
